Hey thanks man. Yes the minor scale is different from the pentatonic and the major scale. Watch all my scale videos in the Lead Guitar section and watch any videos that have to do with both majors and minors in the Music Glossary and in Chord Theory. In short, the pentatonic is a five note scale version of a major or minor. The major scale pattern is WWHWWWH, whereas the minor scale pattern is WWHWWHW. Both the major and minor scales are 7 note scales. An example of a major scale would be CDEFGABC (7notes)… the minor version of that would be ABCDEFGA (7 notes)…. and the pentatonic minor of that would be ACDEGA (only 5 notes). Hope this helps. thanks! :)

Hey mate really great lessons!! Just wondering is the minor scale different from the pentatonic scale and the major scale? Why would you play a minor scale in preference to a major or a pentatonic scale?

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

PS I feel guilty taking these free lessons! (Possibly time to make a donation
Good karma to you sir in the meantime!
